Mr. Yong Hu, a Ph.D. candidate, was awarded the prestigious 2020 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad from the China Scholarship Council. This award is given by the Chinese government to graduate students studying abroad who do not receive financial support from the Chinese government. Recipients are chosen worldwide each year for their outstanding accomplishments in academia. Among all Chinese overseas graduate students, only 500 are awarded each year globally. The number of Chinese students leaving China to study abroad is more than half a million each year, which makes this prize highly competitive. Mr. Hu competed this prestigious honor with numerous peers from universities within the New York consular district, such as Princeton University, Yale University, MIT, and Harvard. Thus, this honor belongs to him and also belongs to University at Buffalo for its rapid growth and strong support to research and education.
